Renowned digital artist Refik Anadol has announced he will build the world’s first AI art museum in Los Angelesrolls88, California.
He calls it Dataland, and it is under development next to the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Broad Museum, and the home of the LA Philharmonic.

— TechRadar (@techradar) October 5, 2024Anadol, a University of California design professor, said Dataland will showcase the “intersection of human imagination and the creative potential of machines.”
The Guardian reported that Anadol and his team of artists and technologists aim to reinvent the museum for the age of AI. They will also highlight the work of digital artists, whom traditional art establishments typically view with skepticism.
Article continues after this advertisementDataland will provide a space for ongoing scientific and technological research. Moreover, Anadol says he will outfit the building itself “with cloud computing and special sensors and special activities.”

Article continues after this advertisement“AI is not a tool. AI is beyond a tool,” Anadol said. “Literally, in human history, we have never had intelligence as a technology.”
That is also why he will build the AI art museum in LA, “the right place for imagining new worlds.”
Article continues after this advertisementHowever, Anadol admits artificial intelligence risks the livelihoods of various creatives. For example, he believed Hollywood artists who went on a strike were right about their concerns.
Nevertheless, he remains firm in his support for AI development. Anadol stated he would be transparent about his AI art museum’s tools and technologies.
Also, he reportedly worked with Google to power Dataland with a sustainable energy park in Oregon. It may slow the museum’s development, but he accepted the limitation.

“Here the idea is not about being fastrolls88, or first – it’s about being right,” Anadol said.
