LUCENA CITY – Eight barangay tanods (village watchmen) were injured on Friday, November 1, after they were hit by a speeding jeepney in Batangas City.
The Police Region 4A (PRO-4A) reported that the watchmen were walking on the shoulder of the road in Barangay (village) Tulo around 4:40 p.m. when a jeepney driven by alias “Gado,” 55, hit them.

Jocelyn Macatangay, 49; Raul Soriano, 55; John Rommel Dinglasan, 32; Alex Perez, 32; Nelson Casao, 49; Nick Banaag, 42; Danilo De Castro, 63; and Arnold Calaluan, 49, suffered serious injuries and were taken to four hospitals for treatment.
Police reported that the driver, now under police custody, was under the influence of liquor when the incident happened
